oh no it's the bogeyman
I saw Paranormal Activity with [info]jisuk on Monday (monday at 2pm, the witching hour) and loved it. It definitely could have used more, and I would have appreciated it if some trailer I saw for it didn't show the ENDING SCENE already. I was expecting the end to happen but wasn't expecting that to BE the end so it was kind of disappointing. Regardless, for $14k or whatever and now number one at the box office, go you paranormal activity. I wouldn't say it's keeping me up at night but it is making me less inclined to open my eyes while lying in bed.
The Ring and What Lies Beneath are still probably my fav horror movies because i really dig their underlying stories in addition to quality scares

it's been a super busy week and it's gonna stay busy till after the weekend, I have a sort-of paper to write so i should go

RT:
alexander o smith, who did the awesome localization for the first phoenix wright game, vagrant story, FF12 and other ace titles did an interview with some other game translators and it's a really cool read if you're interested in that sort of thing

oh man reading that FF12 script at the end makes me want to replay it. i loved how poetic the dialogue was. alexander o. smith is the greatest man ever.

i didn't see the trailer for paranormal activity beforehand so i was pretty spooked by the movie - if it wasn't for my cats i would have been scared being alone at the house at night (my roommate was out that weekend). haha i'm a wuss.

yeah i think everything he touches is gold.

my friend's cats paw at her door at night so they're actually NOT helping her in the wake of paranormal activity ;;;; i guess i'm almost lucky that i can write off any loud bumps in the night as being my crazy neighbor.

yeah, the guy was being stupid about it, but they were realistic people with realistic attitudes. it was a good portrayal of someone who doesn't totally believe in paranormal stuff, but knew enough to be frustrated that something intangible was trying to fuck with his life and that he was powerless to stop it on his own. jisuk and i agreed that he was just being a very typical guy.
if the movie was about nerds who were like lol im totes ready for the zombie apocalypse and i know exactly what to do when there's a demon in my home let me push up my glasses and roll for inits! ..it would have been a shitty movie.

watching travel channel shows about families who supposedly actually experienced stuff like this, they always went down about the same way as this movie (minus the end of course), leaving me wondering why they didn't call someone sooner, etc. but i think for the average person, it would take a lot to admit to someone else that you straight up think there's a demon in your house. katie was ready to admit it because she was experiencing it, but micah was coping differently by joking and trying to do something about it on his own.

Eh, I dunno, I think any NORMAL thinking person or guy would finally admit that we need some help after finding his girlfriend sitting outside not wanting to come in, then not remembering it at all the next day (not to mention the video of her standing over the bed looking at him for hours on end!)

Another gripe is, are there no other demonologists they can call after the one guy was unavailable? I mean they were out in California, so there have to be so many they can contact!

Anyhoo . . . I still found it somewhat enjoyable, but my suspension of disbelief was seriously in danger of crashing and burning as the movie unspooled!

even that part, it's still about seriously admitting that something paranormal is happening. he was acting like she was sleepwalking-- the final night was the only one I really really could not believe, because how the fuck are you supposed to sleep after what happened the night before? it was undeniable at that point and he was ready to go, I can't believe he put up with the very last day and stayed in the house.

and i do agree they should have tried to contact someone else, but if the story about the girl the found on the internet was any indication it would have ended the same way. it doesn't like the professionals!
